Joey Lehrman
Joey Lehrman is an advocate for innovation in learning and teaching. As an experienced educator, speaker, and writer, Joey focuses on how to use technology to create more accessible, relevant, and effective educational opportunity for adult learners.
In his primary role in the Adult Education Program at Delgado Community College, Joey launched the first fully online adult education program in the state. Since 2014, the eLearn program has welcomed over 5,000 new distance learning students. In 2016, Joey helped to form a partnership with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) to scale eLearn statewide, allowing students anywhere in Louisiana to enroll, establishing a unique and collaborative model that quickly expanded access for adult learners throughout the state. As a result of eLearn's growth and success, Joey was selected as a finalist for the 2017 COABE Administrator of the Year Award. In 2019, eLearn was selected as the 2019 COABE State Innovation of the Year. Joey new serves as the Program Effectiveness Coordinator with a primary goal of innovating with data, helping to create meaningful insights that can be used to increase program retention and develop personalized learning pathways for all students.
In 2019, Joey joined the SkillRise project, an initiative from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The project provides free resources to help adult learning organizations explore how to use edtech to advance lifelong learning. Also in 2019, Joey was selected as 1 of 6 national trainers to lead the outreach for Google's new Applied Digital Skills curriculum.
Joey recently served as an executive board member for the Louisiana Association of Public, Community, and Adult Education (LAPCAE) and was a founding member of a neighborhood association’s initiative in New Orleans to redevelop a blighted property into a shared incubator space for artists and schools. He has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and is a Level 1 and Level 2 Google Certified Educator with 12 years of classroom experience including 10 years in adult education. In 2020, Joey was nominated to join the advisory committee for the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network (OTAN), helping to shape vision and strategy for the organization that supports adult educators with distance and blended learning initiatives.
